ACTION ALERT ON HB 2737
The bill to raise the cigarette tax by 50 cents and the tobacco products tax to 57% of wholesale price has been heard by the House Taxation Committee on February 7 and 8. The tax increase would fund significant parts of the Kansas Public Health Authority proposals for health reform as well as reduce consumption and prevalence rates of tobacco use in Kansas. It is important that the Tax Committee members know how important this bill is to their constituents. Urge your Tax Committee member to vote on this measure and move it to the full House for a vote. 1. Thanks for hearing HB 2737 on this very important issue.
2. I am asking you to support the tax increase and move the bill favorably out of the Tax Committee.
3. Passing this bill would reduce the prevalence of smoking in Kansas, keep more Kansas kids from smoking, and raise the funding needed for health reform programs and initiatives in the state.
